Semiotics Triptych

My theme within my three art pieces is Power. The way I wanted to convey this was by making my three pieces revolve around a bird and a snake fighting and its outcome. At first when looking at icon, you don't see much but a silhouette of both animals, showing the bare minimum of the fight as its supposed to interpret neither of the sides winning but the conflict of the fight. The background is red to symbolize the first signs of conflict. Adding yellow within the piece give it a deeper meaning as its supposed to mean it going into the next panel, as yellow it the background for the next panel. I wanted to show the struggle when it comes to the fight as I wanted to make it seem like it was a losing battle for the snake as the bird is the snake’s natural predator. Making the snake look weak with scars is a great way to show vulnerability. Although he looks weak, I wanted to make him also grow in size to recognize the fact that he is growing in power. For the last panel, symbol, I wanted to show at the end how the snake becomes victorious as it wins the fight, wrapping its body around the snake and winning the battle. The bird becomes smaller, signifying the fact its losing. Making the panel’s background blue I wanted to represent the snake and its power it has over the snake.

Using paint and acrylic markers was a bit of a rocky start when starting off it the piece. I wasn't sure if I wanted to use only markers or paint on my work but eventually I began working with both. I figured that if my paint covers my initial sketches I could use the markers to outline it which worked out perfectly. The way the panels are supposed to connect are by sequential order showing a win to lose battle for both ends, the bird gradually loosing over time as the snake is the one who comes out winning in the end.

Tonal Portraits (Hues & Meaning)

During the process of this assignment we were supposed to come up with a portrait that describes a person using only one color, with the exception of black and white. I’ve done a student who’s interest lies in space and a very popular show called “Demon Slayer” using her favorite color green.

Concepts - Ying n Yang

  •  Writing

  • I love writing because it helps me become aware of my thoughts and feelings, It would help me put what I really thought out onto paper rather than thinking about such things. My thoughts become clear and

  • Ever since I was young, I have loved to write. It was one of the many things I enjoyed as it helped me find inner peace within myself and escape reality when things  got hard for me.

  • Writing involves me becoming aware of language, and try to find my own writing style.

  • The challenges that come with writing could be a list of things, from writer's block, to trying to find original ideas. I know as a kid I didn’t have many problems when it came to writing, as it was sporadic, but now as I grow older, I find it harder to write at times because of how much I overthink. Its hard to feel free when now all my thoughts are a mess and all over the place, I become distracted with the many ideas I have in my head, it's hard to sit on one thing without trying to move onto the next.

  •  Thinking

  • When it comes to thinking, that's when I could put things together and come up with all sorts of things

  • Thinking and imagining was another thing I did a lot when I was young in order to create a bunch of things

  • Thinking helps me to recognize situations and its complexities

  • Although thinking helps me with a lot of things, it also makes me overthink and become warped into my own thoughts as I begin to think about the negative. I would only focus on that and begin to spiral into a mass of negative thoughts, and it becomes hard to think about anything else.
